RoadToEverest Log #12

Lobuche was cold. We stayed indoors for the day. The previous day’s tireless trekking played on our minds and we needed a day off.

The village is at a height of 4900m and plus. While most people preferred to push it all the way to Gorekshep, the last stop before the Everest Base Camp, we thought it would be wise to spend one more day in Lobuche and then move forward. There’s no messing around with nature and it’s abilities. It always has the upper hand. So we decided to stay put.

I spent the day watching the magnificent Mt. Nuptse outside the window of the lodge. There were trekkers and porters moving up and down the trail and we even met some of them who had started with us from Lukla but took the easier trail from Dingboche. They had already been to EBC and were on their way back down. We had about three quarters of the entire trek still remaining.

Mt. Everest lurked somewhere behind Nuptse, not ready to reveal itself for us. The weather turned from brightly sunny to windy to a snowstorm in a matter of a few hours.
