Woke up late, jet lagged, tired and missed out on an early morning run that I planned for.
After a good long breakfast, my Sherpa briefed me about the whole trek. He had to arrange the permits for the trek and I had to get my trekking/climbing gears checked.
He then introduced me to another Sherpa who would be my chief guide or sirdar for the trek. A soft-spoken guy but looked like Rambo!
We started out by midday and roamed around the streets of Thamel for our trekking gear and do get our paperwork done. Everything related to trekking and mountaineering can be found in Thamel. The streets were full. Foreigners poured in good numbers this tourist season. I came across a t-shirt for sale in one of the many stores that reflected the determination of the people of Nepal. It read “We will rise again!”.
We settled for a late afternoon lunch of the famous Nepali Dal Bhat. I licked the plate clean and totally loved it.
The next day was going to be a long day. We were heading East, to the Solu Khumbu region and start the RoadToEverest.
